This sediment
filter is installed before the sprinklers and water softener, to protect
everything from plugging. This filter doesn't need to be changed
frequently, only flushed. A Manual valve on the bottom of the filter allows
for easy flushing. Occasionally(5-10 yrs) the filter may need a
thorough cleaning or replacement. This is depending on the water
conditions. Installing the correct size filter will help insure no
pressure loss. If a filter is too small or plugged with sediment, a
restriction may occur. Resulting in a loss of pressure or water flow.
For most residential application a 1" 100 mesh filter is installed.
The Northstar sediment filter is a little more expensive but is Self Cleaning. It is a point of entry filter that can handle up to 35 gpm. It is effective in rinsing the loose particles from the filter's screen maintenance free. The filter is a Heavy - duty stainless steel screen, standard is 60 micron. Clear Sump allows viewing, flow and sediment removal.
