Some water aquifers only produce water with really high iron contents. This iron content is too high for most water softeners to take out. In these cases an iron filter is strongly suggest. An effective way to filter iron out is through a air injected filters. Iron needs to oxidize and fall out (precipitate out) into a solid. The water is then ran through a gravel bed and filtered out. Every other day the iron filter regenerates and cleans the beds to ensure no build up. This filter doesn't require any chemicals or up keep on your part. It is a maintenance free unit! The unit does include a smaller air compressor that is mounted close to the iron filter and both units require 115volt of power to run. See also Chlorination
